That picture is pretty old.  It was taken right after the tsunami.  The ship pic was taken just a few days ago.

oh now i see, still that that makes me think of a new saying, forget being built like a brick sh&t house, i want something built like that house

also on a unrelated note i thought of a good business opportunity, i figure there are some somali pirates that would pay top dollar for that boat.

Maybe its.... wait for it..... a houseboat.

Guessing depending on how they are built, they will float for a little while at least. When it flooded in '98, there was houses floatin around all over the place. There was a house sittin in a field not far from where I used to live. It ended up about 3/4 mile away from where it originally stood & probably only stopped there because it got pushed up against a treeline. Buddy of mine & I went in to check it out, there was dishes on the counter, clothes hangin in the closets, furniture re-arranged, but still sittin around... you could see the waterline about 4-5 foot up from the floor inside the house. the outside unit for the a/c was even still there, it had been drug along by its conduit, lol..

We were up on a hill back then at the white house. Other than bein stranded & no power for 4 days(except for the welding machines) we were safe. River was out & running hard right across the road from the house, we saw a LOT of strange stuff floating by.

When the Guadalupe Floods we typically see several Houses floating down the river.  There was one house they had just finished about 2 months before 2 floods ago that got washed back out in that flood and its just an empty lot now with a cement pad.  As far as I know there are no plans to rebuild there again.  The last flood we had on that river was about 20-26' above the current water level.  All it takes is enough of a flash flood to hit Canyon Lake that it over flows the damn and we are in trouble here.  There is an RV park down by the Guadalup River next to the public Boat ramp for Lake Dunlop where I used to put in that all those RVs got washed away and floated down river last flood and it happened so fast there was really no warning to anyone.

it was the Guadalupe flood of '98 that I mentioned. They called it a "hundred year flood".... and it was the same way here, it happened FAST. Can only imagine what it was like up there around New Braunfels.

Been there when it was flooding, no fun at all. I believe someone drowned in their tent at Camp Beans. :smile20:

Time to build those homes on stilts that are in the flood path.
A few have and a few just decided to not rebuild. Then there is the guy with the Hybrid.  Half the house is on stilts the other half on the ground with the stilts section partially enclosed.  Or maybe its all on stilts and enclosed.  Haven't quite figured that one out yet.  Anyways the latest flood his was fine but his AC took a beating or someones did was about 300 ft downstream in the trees from his house.

Uhm.... It was an earthquake followed by a tsunami.  Not sure stilts would have done much good.    :smile29:
We are talking New Braunfels man! I don't think much would have helped Japan. :smile20:
