After all the excitement of wanting to run my Carlson with the news seats I built and the MSD Ignition I put in the weekend/week before Easter I got to Sommerville only to see a stiff north wind Friday morning. Despite my better judgement I launched at Rocky and made it over to the closed outside ramp where Dad and I set the timing and went for a shake down spin. This lasted for about 100-200 yards before I decided it was not flatbottom water and headed back to the ramp where which on the way back I had several waves over the nose of the boat. But got her back to the house safe and sound. Late that afternoon Dad and my Uncle wanted to run their twin 21 Halletts so back to the water we went. We went over by Deer Island in search of what my uncle declared "smooth water." We headed over toward Pecan Lake and was right out in the middle of the Lake when we drove into a Sand/Mudbar. Thankfully nothing was hurt on Dads Hallett. Uncle John declared " I said smooth water, not deep water." When we got back to the ramp to pull out I hopped off the back of the boat to head to the truck shirt, keys, hat, wallet, basically dressed only to discover I was in about 10 feet of water at the time. We got everything loaded and had another inspection of Dads Hallett and confirmed nothing was hurt.
Lessons Learned for the weekend
1. Wait until late in the afternoon or early in the morning to run my jet boat
2. Pray for rain or migrate to a constant level lake
3. Let others hop out of the boat first.
