We recently got hold of some heads for the 460.  We are pretty sure they are early cobra jet heads. Screw in studs, no common rail. My question is, the only casting number on these heads is  20E-A. guess its a date stamp, but not sure. If anyone knows anything about these, please let me know.  Thanks

There should be a letter in front of the 2, prolly a D.

D2OE-A are '72 to '74 Police Interceptor cylinder heads. These heads are very similar to the Cobra Jet castings with adjustable valvetrain. The port sizes are middle of the road between Thunder Jet and Cobra Jet. 2.20" x 1.93" intake and  2.06" x 1.31" on the exhaust ports. Valves are 2.19" intake and 1.72" exhaust. and the combustion chambers come in at 87 to 90 cc's. These castings are an excellent alternative to the CJ/SCJ castings and are more plentiful. In addition the reduced cross section of the intake port offers excellent low end torque and response.

Cobra Jet/Super Cobra Jet ports are 2.51" x 2.11" on the intake and 2.25 x 1.30 on the exhaust with valve sizes at 2.24" intake and 1.72" exhaust.

You most likely have a set of police inteceptor heads. Not Cobra Jets but better than D0VE's

D = 1970 era
2 = 1972 design
O = Torino (does NOT mean they didn't come on other vehicles, like police cars or boats.)
E = Engine component

-A = first edition of the heads.

I learned alot in my one summer as a Ford guy. Hope that helps.

thats EXACTLY whats on them? No "D" in front? 20E-AB are 1972 Police.

They gotta be D's if they're for a 460 because C2OE's would be off a 221CID motor and E2OE's would be off a 5.0 motor.

Here is a pic of the casting #.  It is 20E-A

Interesting that the first letter is missing. Still, a C would be a 221, a D would be a 429/460 and an E would be a 5.0

Measure the ports. The intake port will be real close to a CJ/SCJ port, but the exhaust port will be noticably smaller if they're PI heads. Still good heads though. Checking out some threads on 460ford.com it looks like they pull about $400 complete needing rebuild.

IF they were true CJ/SCJ heads the casting number would be there and read D0OE-(A thru C)

Found a pic of Police Interceptor heads. Big honkin intake ports, little tiny exhaust ports.

I suppose someone could have ground the D off, but it sure looks like original casting there. Anyway,  shouldn't there be like a AB or AC or something with 2 digit alphabet AFTER the dash. How come only the A? As far as I can tell, The single A signifies an orginal casting (First run). I'm pretty sure they are 72 PI heads, but I am starting to think these may be kind of rare. Any thoughts?
