CUBIC INCHES

I'VE GOT A STANDARD BORE 427. MY BUILDER JUST ASK WHY I DON'T PUT A 454 CRANK IN IT FOR THE EXTRA CUBES. WHAT ARE THE OPINIONS OUT THERE? I'M BUILDING A 1968 V-DRIVE AND THIS IS PROBABLY WHAT CAME IN IT. I HAVE GATHERED OR HAD ALL THE ORIGIONAL "NICSON" HARDWARE. I'M REALLY GOING FOR MORE ORIGIONAL THAN A HOT ROD. IT WILL BE A 3 BLADE BOAT NOT A 2 BLADE. BY THE WAY I STILL NEED REAR ENGINE MOUNT W/ FEET AND BBC LOGS! JUST THROWING THAT OUT THERE- I'LL BE BROKE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS PAYING THE MACHINE SHOP!!!!! OPINIONS AND SOLUTIONS?????????

My .02 says to keep the 427. You won't need or want more. The older boats don't respond real well to lot's of hp. Especially when yoour keepin' the cruisin' prop.

I would agree with Duane on this . If you plan on sticking to a 3 bladed prop. do not add a lot of power to them . If it is a steel 3 bladed prop , that would be OK , but most likely it an old bronze prop. Bronze props are very common on old Flats bottom boats .. The 427 set up right will make a real nice engine and should push thet flat plenty fast ..

I have a nice '69 model 396 that I am fixin to take out of my boat in favor of more cubic inches , but it was not the original engine to the boat . Also , I am not trying to restore my boat to original . If yours is the original engine for the boat it would be cool to leave it in the boat instead of going with a different motor . Get the block casting numbers and see what the engine checks out to be and that will give you a good idea if it is original to the boat or not .

Leave the 427 crank in there. Most of the 427 cranks were steel, maybe that is why the machinst wants you to put a 454 crank in there
I am builing a 427 , 69 vintage,4bolt, steel crank  At the machine shop still  Eveythime I bring something to someone it sits for 3 months

My builder says with the whole combo with about 6lbs of boost should make around 650  in a 110 wheel base car, at around 2200lbs
Just leave the 427 in there unless you are trying to go be top dog, then you will need deep pockets and a different boat

CRANK IS A CAST UNIT FROM A 402. STROKE IS 3.7660. THANKS FOR ALL OF THE OPINIONS AND YES, THE PROP IS AN OLD 3 BLADE BRASS UNIT! MY GOAL IS 450 HP ON AN HYD. CAM. WITH LESS THAN .590 LIFT. ANYBODY HAVE THOSE "NICSON" LOGS OR REAR MOUNTING PCS? JERRY

THE PROP IS A 12X15 ON A 1" SHAFT! HULL IS HEAVY! JERRY

I have the Nicson logs, have never been mounted.  Have photos so e-mail me directly and I will send them to you.

A well built 27 will put a 54 on the trailer every time!
