BBF oil coming out of the dipstick

Hey guys.....need a little advice here. The Crusader has been used twice this season (since March 1st) and I've noticed more oil blowing out of the oil dipstick hole than I'm used to seeing. The oil is apparently coming out of the oil dipstick hole. I'm wondering......do you think the PCV valve is going bad? The hose connecting the PCV valve to the carb is intact and the carb is only a year old....

PCV only works at idle.  It could be but most likely not that it is the culprit.  After you ran it with no water last time out, I'd be doing a leak down test.  Did you check the oil level after going out on the lake yesterday?

Hopefully it is nothing major.  What was the level on the dipstick after you were out?

I didn't check it.....had to run to football practice. I'll check it saturday. I did check the oil before we left and it was not milked at all.

Why are you stressing? Hell mine will blow the dipstick out if I dont have it wired down. That just means your making good power!  :smile23:

Did you change the oil over the winter? maybe its a little over full. When mine was blowing oil everywhere I had several guys tell me to just run a qt less. I ended up evac-ing mine though and it fixed everything.

Truck I bought last spring, dipstick was pushing out a couple inches. It was actually like that when I popped the hood looking at it for the first time, lol... Passenger side of engine was a nasty oily mess where it was being "misted" with oil. Asked the guy about it & he didn't know, just that he would put the dipstick down till it was fully seated, but drive it a bit & then it would push out again.

I cleaned the PCV valve, rinsed it out with WD-40 or maybe it was carb cleaner.... Anyway, it hasn't pushed it out since. Don't know if that would fix your issue, but it took care of mine. Takes all of about 5 minutes & its free... unless you gotta buy the WD-40..

Didn't change the oil since the fall 2011.....plan on doing that soon.

That's kind of what I'm thinking too..... The rubber gromet on the starboard valve cover that the PCV valve is seated in is very loose and appears to not be seated properly. I'll check the PCV too.

Also...like what you mentioned above....the oil is more on the port side of the engine and floor too....

It's a Ford , you gotta expect these things to happen  :smile30: Just run it till it blows and then get a Chevy  :smile17:

Thank you for real advise bro!!

I was thinking the same thing too.

My plan is to take a piece of fuel hose, cut it to size and hose clamp it to where the dipstick enters the block. Then push the dipstick into the other end of the hose. That is a technique I picked up from one of the guys at JBP.

Thanks again James.

That is just a temporary fix..but might work for a while ..  If it has that much blow bye , you need to find out why .. Rings rusted to cylinder wall during winter ? Broke a ring when fired up ??  Valves are not sealing , maybe  some  rust under one of them ??  A valve stuck open ??

You need to do a leak down on the cylinders and see where the air is getting by .. Rings or Valves area

Tony has ran his blown engine for years and  has no puke tank , evac or anything , just open breathers and he has no oil coming out anywhere ..

You got something going on somewhere in the engine .. Maybe it is just overfull on oil , hopefully that it is that simple .. But with no water last outing , maybe it got to hot and hurt the rings ??

Thanks Billy....I'm thinking the same thing too.... I plan on a compression check this weekend with a leak down soon thereafter.......I may have toasted my rings.....

James mentioned that he is going to be selling a BBF pretty soon , maybe it would be just as easy to change the motor out and be able to run the boat while you go through your motor .

I've already contacted James and he said his BBF is going to go into his Enforcer project.

I might ask to borrow it for a while so i can reso this motor  not sure if he'll go for that

Thanks.

the last time you ran it and it puke the oil out , what was the water temp in the engine .. If the engine is running really cold , then it will have more blowby than normal . You might try getting the engine a little warmer by adjusting the gate valve going to the engine .. More heat , more expansion and that might help

I was going to say the samething Billy did.      Might think about this also and check it.  Does it feel lugish or still pull GOOD?  ONly reason I say this is When I toasted my pump last year and the bearing was trying to lock up on the shaft As I was trying to get back to ramp I had a TON of BLOW by but THANK to the man above it didnt hurt anything But I didnt have far to go.  Just a thought I would start with the easy stuff first and take one thing at a time and see what fixes it.  HOW HOT DID IT GET when your HOSE came off.        HAVE YOU GOT A BALL  or GATE VALVE YET???            HEY I got some BBC MOTOR MOUNTS LOL
