Antil Drain back valve

My Mercruiser has a relocated oil filter that is upside down near the top of the engine. Should I or should I not have an oil filter with an anti drainback valve in it and why?

The filter is higher than the heads on the right hand side looking at the front (water pump) side of the engine.

Thoughts??

Thank you.

According to Wix, if the filter is vertical as it would be in a normal Chevy engine, the drain-back valve serves no purpose.  If the filter is slanted as in a Ford ( at least some) it keeps the filter full of oil and there is no delay of oil because of needing to refill the can after the engine is shut off due to drain-back.

I don't think the anti-drain back feature hurts anything, it just isn't needed for some engines.

Mine had an oil cooler on it last year that was mounted upside down with the filter straight down and I never had a problem with it. In fact the oit never drained out of it. Unscrewing the filter meant you had a big mess cause it was still full of oil. That was on a 460.
