Steering extension

Working on replacing an old steering cable. It has the steering extension on it, and the boat has been in salt water. The two pieces have since been married together with corrosion. Anyone have any tricks or tips for separating the two, or by new parts. :smile21:

Guessing its one piece slipped inside the other? Not onowing what it lools like, might be be able to use an air hammer with a chisel bit to drive it off. Far as any chemicals, may could let it sit in some vinegar. Or CLR, something like that to try breaking the corrosion down.

Thats what I had in mind... so I'd try doing what I previously said... clamp the cable in a vice and try driving the extension off of it. Worst case scenario you booger it up & have to replace it anyway, but couldn't hurt to try.
