Commercial bender / Windshields

In just over a week from now, I'm picking up a Commercial Lexan / plexiglas Bender from a guy who used to make boat windshields for a living. He said he's cleaning out his garage and has two of them and is willing to give one away. Unfortunately the bender is located in Savannah Georgia however he is shipping it to my sisters house just north of Atlanta. The kids and I are heading to Atlanta to see grandma after Christmas so we will be able to get it then and bring it back to Dallas. I know of at least three of us cool Northies that need to replace / manufacture new windshields from Lexan or Plexiglas.

Sweetness!!  bling.gif

I'd be interested in what all kinds of bends that thing could make. Both of mine are split, it be nice to maybe be able to get some replacements.

Congrats on the score. clap.gif

Lol... thanks.

The bender is 58 inches long..... and I forgot the other dimesions however it does have a variable thermostat on it and he said he would include some instructions and tips too.

So....with that said...we might just be seeing some of you "South" fellas up north in the spring. While you're up here, try out Lake Lavon too! lol. I could experiment working the windshields on your bots before tackling mine. haha.

If/when we make it up there, I'd damn sure let ya take a look at my windshields, lol.. I probably need to make a cardboard template before I ever took 'em out to have something to go by.

Friend of mine on the boards here, had an Avenger like mine awhile back & bought probably one of the last sets of new ones from Cee Bee while he was out in California on vacation. He said he didn't trust 'em down with the luggage, he carried 'em on the plane with him when he came home, lol...

That's what I'm doing is mocking up the windshield first with carboard then lay the cardboard out and cut the lexan from it. I think when it comes to bends, you'd have to fist heat up where you want to bend it and then mock it up on the boat to see how it looks...adjusting it as necessary. It would be a "trial and error" at best with each one.

Wonder what the materials go for. It's probably Lexan, no? Never priced any of that stuff, or even know what size a sheet of it is...

Dark tint is what I was going for also. When I get home next week I will figure out what size I need.

That is excellent Cliff.  I excited to get a new windshield on the cruiser.  I'll have prices tomorrow on Lexan, polycarbonate from another manufacturer and plex.  Lexan is a GE trademark for polycarbonate.  There are other manufacturers of polycarbonate that are much cheaper than Lexan.  Poly is virtually unbreakable but color choice is limited.  Plex is much cheaper and is available in virtually any color.  Most of the old windshields are plex.

As long as the material is strong like Lexan and tinted, I'm happy!

Sweet.....we might be able to start a business up in this North area!! lol.
